Family at Pataka Art + Museum, Porirua

Family developed themes introduced in Some Assembly Required at Jonathan Smart in 2014: of work, humanism and the social, of colour, decoration and the baroque body. Included were a family of objects which proliferated a kind of neo-Baroque Modernism, “speaking to each other in a language of sound and story, inviting the viewer to construct their own interpretations of the relationships between them. Abstract, noisy, and (in some cases) self-illuminating, these resin and wood sculptures appeared makeshift and portable, suggesting an endless series of possible configurations – of different family units, and of different ways of assembling and making”.
